Most of the data your apps consume is unverifiable. The indexer powering your blockchain dashboard. The off-chain database holding your audit logs. The CDN serving your model weights. None of it tells you whether what you got is what you should have gotten.
Today we're introducing Willow — verifiable data infrastructure for decentralized applications. A new protocol that indexes blockchain data, stores structured records, and serves files. Every read returns a cryptographic proof you can verify yourself.
The problem we're solving
The data layer of the internet runs on trust. We trust Etherscan to render the right transactions. We trust our analytics provider to count events correctly. We trust the indexer, the database, the file host. When trust breaks, we find out the hard way — through a wrong number, a missing record, a tampered file.
Crypto promised a world where verification replaced trust. But somewhere between the chain and the user, that promise got dropped. Most apps consuming "on-chain data" are actually consuming someone's interpretation of on-chain data, served from a centralized indexer that you have no way to audit.
The same is true off-chain. When you store structured records like compliance logs, agent memory, or vault stats, the only thing tying them to reality is the operator's word. When you serve files — model weights, training data, content moderation rules — there's no built-in way to prove the bytes the user got match the bytes you uploaded.
Willow closes that gap.
What Willow does
Willow is a single protocol with three first-class capabilities, each backed by the same verification primitives.
Verifiable indexing. Index any chain. Filter, transform, aggregate. Every query returns a proof you can verify in a browser, in a Lambda, or inside an enclave. No trusted indexer, no opaque pipeline — just raw events with the cryptographic receipts to prove what they are.
Structured data storage. Store SQL-shaped records under your own namespace (a "subgrove"). Schemas, queries, range scans, updates — all anchored on-chain. Build audit logs, agent memory, off-chain indices — without losing the verification properties you started with.
File storage. Upload anything. Files are chunked, content-addressed, and Merkle-verified on download. Storage nodes stake to join the network, prove availability, and earn rewards for serving real bytes. Your client checks the math.
The architecture is hub-and-spoke: verification primitives live in the protocol, the three capabilities are first-class spokes, and everything is exposed through one set of SDKs — TypeScript, Python, Rust, Go, Swift, and React.
What's live today
This isn't a whitepaper launch. There's real software to use:
- A working devnet. Register a subgrove, point our indexers at any contract on Ethereum or supported L2s, and start querying with proofs in minutes.
- A dashboard. Browse it at dashboard.willow.tech. Spin up a subgrove, run queries, and inspect the proofs alongside the data. There's also a block explorer for blocks, transactions, and validators.
- A live partner deployment. yieldnest.willow.tech is a verified analytics dashboard for the YieldNest protocol, powered end-to-end by Willow. Every TVL number, every chart, every vault stat is backed by cryptographic proofs of the events it was derived from.
Why it matters now
Three audiences. Three converging reasons.
For DeFi and on-chain analytics, dashboards and risk systems are getting increasingly load-bearing. When billions ride on a number, "trust the indexer" stops being good enough. Willow lets you ship analytics with the proof of every event the number was computed from.
For compliance and enterprise, regulators and counterparties are asking for audit trails that can't be quietly rewritten. Willow gives you long-horizon, cryptographically anchored records that hold up across years and across parties — without re-running the pipeline every time someone needs to verify.
For AI agents, the agents shipping this year are starting to handle money, identity, and compliance decisions. Agents need data they can stand behind — verifiable inputs, signed memory, content-addressed tools. Willow gives them all three.
These aren't speculative use cases. They're what early users are already building.
What's next
A few priorities over the next few months:
- More chains — expanding verifiable indexing beyond Ethereum and the major L2s
